We All Need Self Belief – The Hangar
Tennis is my sport to watch, compete in and enjoy. My passion as a super fan ignited as a young child. Fond memories of going to bed early at my grandmother’s house, alarm set, to be woken up as the first match of Wimbledon started at 11:30 pm EST. The smell of grilled cheese, vita wheat crackers topped with pickled onions and cracked pepper was the midnight snack of choice my grandmother and I shared, as we set in for the start of the grass-court season.
It is inspirational to watch athletes who dedicate their lives to follow their tennis passion, to make it on the tour, at whatever level. The mental resilience to be out there alone, the pressure at the top and the struggle at the bottom is extreme. The ability to rise up, stay strong and continue the fight even after a thirty-two point shot rally. Awed by the sheer skill and display in long matches, dynamic players and structured points.
“…rise up, stay strong and continue to fight…”
Principally, it is the battle of the individual, paradoxically uniting. Empathy for the players you watch having a tough ‘work’ day because everyone one of us has those days. The pressure can get too much. You feel alone, stressed, anxious whatever the circumstances. We can all struggle when we aren’t at our best, playing the individual game of life.
The more we share, gathering courage, self belief and staying calm while keeping the ball in play, the more success we have. So, whether it is on the tennis court, in the office, at school, flying jets, at The Hangar – Youth Mentoring we focus on working with our cadets through our programs, generating self belief and worth. Sharing wisdom, best practices and coaching. Empowering our young people to identify the 4 T’s: Task -Target, Threat and Tactic.
We are looking forward to the next course starting soon.
